Mt. Cotopaxi is a stratovolcano in the Andes Mountains,  located about 50 miles south of Quito, Ecuador, South America.   It is part of the chain of volcanoes around the Pacific plate known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, the location of our Sacred Nexus Heart Light.  However, this Intuition Mountain is not linked with the Sacred Nexus Heart Light with respect to the work we will be doing.  It is linked with the Machu Picchu Heart Light.

JUST A NOTE HERE:  ALL of the Intuition Mountains and Heart Lights are interconnected, and there may be other work that we will be doing with various Heart Lights and Intuition Mountains.  However, the information here is primarily focused on the work that we will be doing with the Intuition Mountains and their linked Heart Lights.

    Cotopaxi is the second highest mountain in Ecuador. For years Cotopaxi was the world's highest active volcano.  However Chile's Tupungato (21,489 ft.) is a higher mountain, and awakened from its dormancy with an eruption in 1986.  

    Cotopaxi is a symmetrical cone rising over 10,000 feet above the surrounding plateau. Although it is located fewer than fifty miles from the equator, the high precipitation of the region maintains a perpetual snow cap on the summit.

    The summit crater frequently releases steam, and eruptions have been well documented for several centuries. The earliest historical eruptions were in 1532 and 1533, and the mountain has erupted frequently since.  The eruption of 1877 reportedly caused complete darkness at 8 am. in Quito, Ecuador's capital city. More recent but relatively minor eruptions have occurred throughout the twentieth century.

   For centuries the native people of the area worshiped Cotopaxi as a god. Foundations of homes built near the Rio Pita are evidence of the pre-Hispanic cattle herders in the area, and the ruins show evidence of platforms built to worship the mighty mountain.   As the Incas arrived in the area they too worshiped the mountain and built fortresses to control the surrounding area.

   Much of the mountain's history surrounds its volcanic activity.  Records indicate that in 1534 the conquistadors engaged in a war with the locals for control of what is now Ecuador.   During a battle on the flanks of Cotopaxi, the mountain began to erupt. The locals viewed this as a sign from their god and ran off in fear. The Spanish, unused to volcanic activity and seeing the reaction of the locals, ran off in terror.

   As many of you may have experienced our Intuition Mountains and Heart Lights can, at times, be very unforgiving of those who use their energy “in service to Self” rather than “in Service to ALL.”  And, many times there will be a major reaction of a Heart Light or Intuition Mountain when the energy surrounding it is too unbalanced and filled with anger, fear or other negative emotions.
