THE BASIC TREATMENT

             1. Wash hands.

             2. Spend a few minutes talking with the client. Briefly explain what you are going to do (if necessary). Remind the client that there is no particular state of mind associated with Reiki, but in order to fully appreciate the healing process, it is good to "close your eyes and open yourself up to experience the flow of energy." If the client wishes to meditate (or even take a nap), that is totally acceptable. If the client has questions and would like to talk during the treatment, this is also acceptable.

Ask if there are any particular places where the client is feeling discomfort.

Either scan the body (instructions are found further on in this manual) or use a pendulum (instructions are found further on in this manual) to seek out any places which are in particular need of healing. As you proceed with your Basic Treatment, you will deal with these areas right after you have worked the Chakra closest to them.

             3. Standing at the head of the massage table, with your client lying on his/her back (or behind the client if he/she is sitting in a chair), center, ground and bring in the White Light (using either the Kanji positions or your own special method.)

4. Place your hands together, side by side on the Crown Chakra. Remember that Reiki is gentle. There is no need to press down hard. As a matter of fact, you can give Reiki by holding your hands an inch away from the client's body. It's just not as much fun for both of you. Hold this position for as long as you intuitively feel it is necessary. (Generally, you would hold it for 1 to 2 minutes, unless you sense that this is a problem area.)

 5. Place your hands together, lightly over the client's eyes. The heals of your hands should be over the Third Eye Chakra, your palms over the eyes, and your fingertips lightly touching the cheeks. (NOTE: Some people have a problem with being touched on the face. Ask permission before you do this.) As before, hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

6. Cup your left hand over the client's Throat Chakra, and your right hand over your left hand. Hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

7. Form a "VEE" with your hands over the client's sternum. (This is the location of the Chakra which is NOW beginning to open up in everyone. It is called the "Unified Trinity Chakra." It is located between the Throat Chakra and the Heart Chakra and is associated with the color pink.) Your index fingers should be touching. Hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

8. Move counter-clockwise to the side of the table. (If your client is on his/her back, this would be his/her right side.) If the client is a male or someone you know very well, place your hands directly over the Heart Chakra, either side by side or one hand in front of the other (for example, right hand in front of left hand with the heel of your right hand slightly touching the fingers of your left hand). You may also cross one hand on top of the other hand, if this feels right for you. Hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

If the client is female and you are not well acquainted, place your hands side by side over the shoulder, pointing toward the Heart Chakra. (NOTE: If you use this latter position, you must also do it on the opposite side once you have worked your way around to that position.) Hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

(NOTE:  This drawing shows how to place one hand in front of the other as an alternate way of placing your hands directly over the Heart Chakra as well as the Solar Plexus Chakra and the Lower Abdomen Chakra)

             9. Place your hands, side by side, one in front of the other or one crossed on top of the other as described in #8, over the Solar Plexus Chakra. Hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

 10. Place your hands, side by side, one in front of the other, or one crossed on top of the other as described in #8, over the Lower Abdomen Chakra. Hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

11.  Either place your hands in an open "VEE" position over the Root Chakra (the right hand is just above where the right leg joins the trunk of the body, and the left hand is just above where the left leg joins the trunk of the body; both hands pointing toward the center of the body) or place both hands, side by side, just above the right leg where it joins the trunk of the body and point them towards the Root Chakra (NOTE: If you use this latter position, you must also do it on the opposite side once you have worked your way around to that position.) Hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

12. Following a counter-clockwise circle, move to the opposite side of the client. Work the Root Chakra (if necessary).

 13.  Work the Heart Chakra (if necessary). Then, ask client to turn over on his/her stomach. Remain on this side of the table.

14. Place your hands, side by side, one in front of the other or one crossed on top of the other, on the client's upper back. Hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

15. Place your hands, side by side, one in front of the other or one crossed on top of the other, on the client's middle back. Hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

16. Place your hands, side by side, one in front of the other or one crossed on top of the other, on the client's lower back. Hold this position for 1 to 2 minutes.

           17. Either scan the body or use your pendulum to see if there are any other areas that need additional Reiki energy. If there are, work the areas for as long as you feel is necessary.

(NOTE: You can work the body from the front or the back at this point. For example, if the Heart Chakra is still in need of additional Reiki energy, you may place your hands on the client's back in the area of the Heart Chakra, and the energy will automatically go there.)

If you feel there is no more work to be done at this time, advise the client that the treatment is finished and he/she can slowly get up at his/her own pace.

 18. Discuss any insights you may have picked up while giving the treatment regarding future treatments or suggestions on how the client can work with the healing process (like using Bach Flower Remedies, meditation, eating certain foods or wearing certain colors associated with the chakras which need special attention, etc.). You also may have tuned in to some vital information regarding the client's past or current situations which may help with the healing process. This is a good time to discuss that, if you feel the client is open to it. Follow your intuitions. You will know what is right.

 19. Wash hands after the client has left and smudge or cleanse the room in whatever manner you choose.
