SCANNING

Many Reiki Masters and Master Teachers teach their Initiates to always scan the body before giving a Reiki treatment. Sometimes I will scan the body. Other times, I prefer to use my rose quartz pendulum. Whichever method you use, it is important to discern the proper way to use them. Some teachers say to scan with your left hand, one to four inches above the body.  The reason for this is because the left hand is the "receiving hand" and is more sensitive to the energies being projected by the client.  However, you may choose to experiment with both the right and the left hand, and discover for yourself which way is the most effective.

Begin with the Crown Chakra. As you hold your hand above it, ask for guidance in seeking out those areas that need healing or for those chakras and meridians which are blocked. As you slowly move down the body from chakra to chakra, become aware of how the energy feels. Here, again, I believe the technique will vary with each Practitioner. Whenever there is a problem area, some may sense a coolness, or irregularity in the energy field. Others may sense an over-abundance of heat radiating outward or vibrations or tingling sensations. Still others may simply find their hand being pulled down to the affected area. Trust in your own process. The more you practice this, the more easily you will learn how to distinguish a problem area from a healthy area.

Generally, if a certain area radiates more heat than normal it is because the body is working on healing that particular area.  Therefore, you should make a mental note to work a little longer on that area.  Also, if the body seems to be generating a cool sensation it signifies that the nearest chakra is most likely blocked.  So, you should make a mental note to focus on that area during the session.

Continue this process until you have scanned the entire body.

USING THE PENDULUM

If you have a favorite crystal or rose quartz pendulum, try using it with your Reiki treatments. Beginning with the Crown Chakra, allow your pendulum to dangle about 2 or 3 inches above the chakra (holding the cord or chain attached to your pendulum between your first and second fingers of your left hand and keeping your hand as still as possible).

Generally, if the pendulum makes a circular movement clockwise, the chakra is open. If it does not move at all, the chakra is blocked. If it makes a counter-clockwise circular motion, there is serious blockage.

As you move from one chakra to another, make a mental note of the chakras that have a blockage and give them some extra attention when giving the Reiki treatment.
