REIKI WITHOUT PHYSICAL CONTACT Sometimes, as with burn or bee sting cases or cases where there has been extreme trauma (such as physical or sexual abuse), it is not a good idea to physically lay your hands on a client. In these cases, you can give a complete Reiki treatment by holding your hands from 1 to 4 inches above the body. It has been said that the Reiki energy is actually more powerful using this system because it works with the auric field before entering the body. While many people find this technique more effective, there are those who still enjoy the warmth and energy that comes from physical contact. Experiment, alternating this technique with the hands-on technique, following your intuition. Know that whichever method you choose, it will be the right one. REIKI AND ANIMALS Most animals love Reiki. However, some may be intimidated by it at first. The best way to give Reiki to an animal is to go slow and easy. Allow the animal to tell you when it has had enough. If you take this approach you will find that your Reiki treatments will gradually last longer and longer. Many of my Reiki Practitioners have told me that their pets now come to them, asking for Reiki.
Use discernment. Sometimes an animal will move away or flinch when you lay your hands on an affected area. If this happens, know that there is a problem in that area. If it is too uncomfortable for the animal to lay your hands on the area, place your hands about 1 to 4 inches above that area. It will work just as well, if not better. I usually work through the Crown and Heart Chakras first . . . then I move onto other chakras. I have also found that when there is extreme heat in a certain area it is because the animal's body is trying to heal itself. Pay attention to these areas.
In the case of fish or animals you are hesitant about holding or touching (such as snakes or tarantulas, etc.), hold your hands around the cage or the bowl and allow the Reiki energy to project into them. Don't be surprised if they move toward your hands. It's simply their way of acknowledging they like the healing energy you are sending them.
We are all interconnected. We cannot live without plants and trees. They cannot live without us. Plants and trees produce oxygen. We breathe in the oxygen that gives us life and breathe out carbon dioxide that, in turn, gives plants and trees life. Science has proven that all life forms have feelings. Plants and trees are no exception. I remember an experiment where an EEG was hooked up to a house plant. When soft, soothing music was played, the plant responded positively. Then, in another room, a container full of live brine shrimp was poured into a pot of boiling water, killing the brine shrimp. The plant responded frantically to this act of violence. We have a responsibility to nurture all life forms. Reiki is a wonderful way of showing plants and trees how much we love them and how grateful we are that they continue to give us life.
House plants can be given Reiki by holding the pot with your hands or by placing your hands about one to two inches away from the plant as described in the previous paragraph.
Another great way of sharing Reiki with trees is to stand with your back against the tree trunk. Join your hands by placing one above the other, with the thumb of the right hand touching the baby finger of the left hand. Then place your hands between your Unified Trinity Chakra and your Heart Chakra. As the Reiki comes through your Crown Chakra and circulates through your heart, the energy is also absorbed through your back by the tree. The tree, in turn, allows the Reiki energy to circulate through it and return to you through your back. Whenever I share Reiki with trees in this manner, I can actually feel the energy running up and down the tree. It's a wonderful feeling to share Reiki this way. And, don't forget to hug a tree!
