TRUTH OR FICTION?

             From what I can ascertain, a great portion of this legend is true. Tibetan Buddhism did embrace a healing process called Medicine Buddha, which involved conveying the power to heal from teacher to student in a similar manner that the Reiki Initiate receives empowerment from the Reiki Master through what we call attunements. It is very possible that Dr. Usui tapped into this process during his mystical experience on the Kurama Yama.

            Those who have investigated the Reiki Legend discovered from the chief archivist at Doshisha University that Dr. Usui had never been on the faculty there. They have no knowledge of him. Similarly, the University of Chicago has no records that Dr. Usui was ever a student there.

            Some say that the "Christian" version of the Reiki Legend was concocted in order to make the practice of Reiki more acceptable to our Western Culture during the time just before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

            All this proves is that we don't really know for sure the Truth behind the origin and re-discovery of Reiki. However, it doesn't really matter. Reiki has healed thousands of people since Dr. Usui re-introduced it to our world. That is all that really matters.

            Those of us who have chosen to be here at this time have a lot of important work ahead for us. It is imperative that we spread the teachings of Usui, Hayashi, Takata, Furumoto and all those Reiki Practitioners, Masters and Master Teachers who are committed to carry on the Reiki tradition. NOW is the time for Holistic Healing.

As the Earth Changes continue, large cities will break up and smaller communities will be the norm. Doctors will not always be available. NOW is the time to return the power to facilitate healing to ALL those who choose to accept it and allow them to take responsibility for healing themselves and facilitate healing for others and the planet.

            Reiki has come a long way since Dr. Usui re-introduced it to us over a century ago. The more healers we have practicing Reiki, the more new discoveries we can make from its use. The potential for healing all life forms with Reiki is growing in leaps and bounds.

It is also important to remember that the primary function of Reiki is to "Raise Consciousness."  The secondary function of Reiki is to facilitate Healing, Harmony and Balance.  I say, let's stop judging and analyzing how, why, where or when Reiki came to us. Let us accept this most beautiful gift and get on with our work of healing and balancing our lives and our world.
