WHAT IS REIKI? 

            Reiki is a connection with the ever-flowing light energy of the universe. In and of itself, Reiki is the greatest teacher for those who are willing to listen and learn. Much more will be gained through your actual experience as you move through life than could ever be written or described. As you move into the natural energy flow of this wonderful healing, wholing, illuminating, balancing, energizing and revealing energy, this manual will take on a deeper and deeper meaning.

            REIKI is pronounced "Ray-Key."

            REI is the Japanese word that means "universal" and is also a reference to the higher dimension of light and the soul.

            KI is the Japanese word that means the vital life force energy that interpenetrates and connects all.

REIKI IS UNIVERSAL LIFE FORCE ENERGY

            Many races, cultures and religions have always been aware of the existence of an energy that corresponds to the meaning of KI. Thus, KI is also named:

CHI by the Chinese

LIGHT or HOLY GHOST by Christians 

PRANA by the Hindus

MANA by the Kahunas

BIOPLASMIC ENERGY by Russian Researchers

KA of the Egyptians

PNEUMA of the Greeks

BARAKA of the Sufis

JESOD of the Jewish Cabbalists

WAKAN or WAKOUDA of the Sioux

            All are one and the same basic energy, although the extent to which they are applied and the theories concerning them differ greatly. The basic conditions required for making use of this energy are also very different. Some of the systems named above require that long, drawn-out exercises be carried out beforehand.  Frequently, much deprivation must be endured before the desired energy can be drawn upon and made use of.

REIKI IS: 

A POWERFUL NATURAL SYSTEM that unlocks the inner flow of vital energy within the sender and the receiver.

 AN EVOLUTIONARY PROCESS which increases the natural flow of events and the patterns of manifestation within life

A WAY TO SYNCHRONIZE AND ENERGIZE vital meridians and acupuncture points of the body while gently aligning and balancing the major energy or chakra centers in the physical and finer bodies.

A NATURAL HEALING SYSTEM that is in perfect harmony and symphony with other healing and wholing techniques and practices. It is an energy support system that acts in conjunction with all healing practices.

 A SUPPORT FOR MEDICAL PROCEDURES and practices that neither conflicts with nor interferes with other medical treatments. It assists the body in its own highest level of healing and wellness.

 A UNIVERSAL HEALING ENERGY which is greatly beneficial to all life forms: humans, plants, animals and other living forces.

 A CONSISTENT AND VITAL MEANS of relieving and releasing stress, tension and hypertension. It releases, in a controlled and gentle manner, the accumulated stress and tension acquired in day-to-day activities and prevents the deepening of tension into the body-mind complex.

 A WAY TO CONTROL ANXIETY and anticipation often associated with "dis"ease, illness and crises. It gently calms the mind and emotions and provides a positive context for healing.

 LIKE BREATHING. Once you, the Initiate, receive the attunements, Reiki is activated.  It is with you always . . .  silently, gently and powerfully. Our bodies are built on the constant rhythmic pulsation of our breathing; our lives are built and enhanced by the constant flowing pulsation of REIKI.

 A COMPLETELY SELF-CONTAINED NATURAL HEALING SYSTEM. It is complete and whole in and of itself, and yet it acts synergistically with all other types of healing.

ALWAYS AVAILABLE. Reiki always works once the activating process has been started by someone properly trained in the Reiki system.  Generally the Initiate experiences heat in the palms when giving Reiki.  However, if you do not feel heat or sensation in your hands, this does not mean that the Reiki has stopped working. Reiki adjusts to the needs and conditions of the receiver.

SAFE TO USE anytime, anyplace and in any situation. There is no condition from which it will not facilitate a higher and more perfect state of being, according to the Divine Will and Purpose of the receiver

EASY TO LEARN. Reiki is not taught as ordinary knowledge. It is an ancient and powerful Attunement process that extends beyond time. During your Reiki classes you will learn in an easy and comfortable manner how to access and use this powerful and yet gentle Light energy. A Reiki Master precisely "wires" a higher level of circuitry so that all you are required to do is to activate the energy as taught in the class.

A UNIQUE AND INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE. No two people see or experience the world in the same way. Reiki reminds us that we are all one in the flow of light and yet as  unique, beautiful and individual as a snowflake.

 REIKI IS FAST, SAFE, SIMPLE, ELEGANT AND POWERFUL

REIKI IS NOT: 

DIFFICULT TO USE. It is one of the easiest, most natural forms of healing. Everyone intuitively knows to place their hands on an injured area. Reiki opens the conscious mind to many types of self-healing.

A FORM OF PSYCHIC HEALING. Most psychic healing creates a sense of flow from the healer, not through the healer. This is one of the major differences between psychic healing and Reiki. Reiki is not subject to the mental, physical or emotional condition of the healer nor can it be influenced in a negative way by thoughts or emotions.

A LAYING-ON-OF-HANDS. Though First Degree Treatment may resemble the form of the laying-on-of-hands, it is considerably different. As with psychic healing, most laying-on-of-hands healing creates a sense of flow from the healer, not through the healer. Reiki is an accurate way of directing pure Light energy from dimensions beyond our conscious awareness and limitations. It operates beyond the levels where mistakes or errors exist.

A PSYCHIC SURGERY TECHNIQUE. There are techniques called "drawing or pulling out and severing." In most cases, with Reiki this is not necessary. Reiki is effective in releasing blocked energy in a natural and safe manner.

A MASSAGE TECHNIQUE. Massage is a powerful and ancient art. When used properly, by a trained practitioner, it can and does produce excellent results. And, if a Massage Therapist has received the Reiki training and attunements, Reiki will enhance the healing process.

A DOGMA, RELIGION, CULT OR SPECIFIC DOCTRINE OR BELIEF SYSTEM. Reiki is a "Universal System of Light." It encompasses and embraces doctrines and dogmas and gently brings more Light to the understanding of the mind, peace to the emotions, and ecstasy to the spiritual nature of individuals. There is no conflict between Reiki and existing religions or spiritual beliefs. Reiki will gently push out limiting belief systems and move you to the Source where all things are seen clearly with understanding, love and compassion.

DEPENDENT UPON A CERTAIN STATE OF MIND. Reiki transcends the limitations of the personal self, ego or mental/emotional aspects of an individual. While many of my clients prefer to meditate while receiving Reiki treatments, it is not necessary. I have conducted spiritual consultations while giving Reiki treatments as well as Inner Child work and Guided Visualizations for mental, physical and emotional healing.

REIKI IS NOT LIMITED TO A SELECT FEW.  The air and the sunlight belong to everyone, and so does this natural Light energy. The main difference between having and not having the Reiki Attunements is one of quantity and quality with regard to the flow of this vital life energy. With the Reiki attunements, the total individual is more able to receive, utilize and appreciate the ceaseless flow of vital light. Reiki is self-selecting. Each individual determines the quality of his/her life and his/her place in the universal order of life, first by thought and feeling, then by action. We would like to see a Reiki Practitioner in every household.

REIKI IS NOT TAUGHT BY JUST ANYONE.     I have met those who, after I explain what Reiki is, claim that they are Reiki healers. When I ask them who their Master/Teacher is, they respond that they just know how to do it. This is not true. There are many books and tapes on the market today explaining how to give a Reiki treatment.  Books and tapes and personal experiences are wonderful guides for giving a Reiki treatment.  However, you must have a fully certified Reiki Master/Teacher activate the Reiki energy for you through the precise attunement process before you can truly be a Certified Reiki Practitioner.

REIKI IS NOT TAUGHT BY ONLY ONE ORGANIZATION 

There seems to have been much controversy concerning information about the various Reiki Organizations. Hawayo Takata taught and initiated many Reiki Masters and passed on information regarding the lineage and nature of Reiki. Reiki is a sacred science and sacred trust that promotes health, honor, dignity and respect for life. Derogatory remarks, unethical conduct, exclusivity and ego enhancement have nothing to do with the purity and integrity of the Reiki system.

            People may be trained in the specific techniques of Reiki and the Attunement Process, but only the Divine Self of the Reiki Master Candidate and the Presence of the Divine can create a "Reiki Master."  Even the "Reiki Masters" are but apprentices in the use of Universal Light Energy. When True Mastery is achieved, this plane of existence will be consciously mastered and transcended. There is a far greater presence in this universe than our minds can currently comprehend. Ultimately you must choose in your own heart what is Truth for you.
